A delegation from the Chinese province of Fujian placed US$ 766 million-worth of orders in Taiwan Tuesday, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) officials reported later that day.
The orders were placed by 14 Fujian-based companies led by Fujian Provincial Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Deputy Director-General Zhang Qiu that attended a purchase meeting organized by TAITRA, the officials said.
The delegation's visit came a day before the start of a May 5-10 visit by a 2,000-strong delegation from the province led by Fujian Provincial Governor Huang Xiaojing.
The smaller delegation's orders included agricultural products, machinery parts, textile and chemical materials, as well as LED and flat panel-related electronics, they said.
A total of 56 meetings will be held for the current delegation, with 22 Taiwanese companies -- including Formosa Plastics Group, Shinkong Synthetic Fibers Corporation, and Chimei Innolux Corporation -- scheduled to attend.
